Robert E. Maddux, 79, of Pahoa died Nov. 21 at home. Born in Iowa, he was raised in Omaha, Neb., at Boy’s Town, where he was mayor. He also was an Eagle Scout, state champion athlete/scholar, U.S. Army veteran, superintendent of schools in California, past president of Eureka California Club, Felix Consent Decree monitor in Hawaii and member of the South Hilo Rotary Club.
